Heritage survey responses.
Do you agree that the identification and protection of local heritage places is best done by local councils rather than DPTI (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure)?
Yes on the grounds that I can actually prove (in a court of law) local councils are more in touch with what the community wants, but the State DPTI Government Public Officers in Adelaide are more in touch with their own self-serving promotion and personal wealth to maintain a working relationship with the party faithful to serve their own career goals. In your opinion, has the current system of local heritage protection served your community well?
No.Should councils reject proposals to list local places of historic merit simply because an owner objects?
No.Should neighbours of local heritage listed buildings have a right of appeal on development applications that propose demolition?
Yes, any interested party has the right to appeal the destruction of any thing considered culturally or socially significant to them.Should buildings listed as Contributory Items in your council area receive better protection?
Yes.Do you agree that places proposed for listing by your council as Local Heritage or Contributory Items should be subject to review by DPTI? Or would reviews be more appropriately conducted by an independent source of expert advice?
No. Any "review" should be conducted by the community through consultation. Our heritage belongs to us as a whole, not the political parties exclusively as a very small representation of "us".Would you like to see your council work more closely with the National Trust of SA in protecting heritage, for example, by signing up as one of the Trust's Civic Partners?
Yes.What are your personal suggestions for improving the way your council handles policy and planning?
Much more community consultation than already exists, and a lot less authoritarian control by the State meaning that what the community wants should never be over-ruled by a decision from State minister for planning after a political party caucus meeting.Should councils actively encourage individuals to nominate places for consideration as local heritage?
Yes. A question for you - Did you know the State doesn't recognise the Scottish people as a cultural group? We Caledonians have that as an official opinion when our application for cultural funding was rejected in the recent past.
