KINGSLEY FERDINANDS
2022 candidate for City of Holdfast Bay.
Heritage survey responses.
Do you think that Councils and community members need to have a greater voice in planning and development decisions affecting their local area?
NO. The Minister responsible for local government, planning and Minister for environmental issues can deal with these matters adequately within their departments. Council issues are presently well managed by the state government. What role should Councils play in protecting local heritage places from demolition or inappropriate development?
Council should take all advice first and have community debate. However, where a building has old building products or hazardous products such as asbestos then the buildings should be removed. I am a strong supporter of renovations to all homes and buildings in Holdfast Bay.How would you seek to improve protections for heritage places in your area?
I have some strong views on this. I think the community need to understand more about heritage and history. I do have some plans that shall remain secret but certainly I support renovations of homes and developers that seek to renovate have my full support. We rarely see new places added to local heritage listings. Why do you think this is?
Council needs a more hands on approach. Today, there are few instructions for the people to know the process of heritage listing. An old building has heritage value regardless but some persons have the view that old buildings are just old and do not fit the scene and the land that they sit on must be redeveloped, thus the building must go. Depending on the building I would value heritage over development. How has the Planning and Design Code impacted on the heritage, amenity, and environment of your area? What changes would you seek to the Code?
Holdfast Bay council in the past has removed many old buildings. This is a sad state of affairs. large parcels of land have been sold off for units. This too is sad. What are the impacts of infill development in your area? What changes would you seek in the rules around infill development?
I am unsure. I have not been briefed by the CEO of Holdfast Bay.Construction of new housing typically uses 30% labour and 70% materials. Renovation of existing housing stock typically uses 70% labour and 30% materials. What policy changes would you like to see made to encourage people to renovate, rather than demolish and build anew?
I am unsure. I have not been briefed by the CEO of Holdfast Bay.How should the community be informed and involved in decisions about new developments?
Door knocking and face to face meets.Do you think there is adequate tree canopy across your local government area?
There are too many trees in Adelaide, the hills and Holdfast Bay. If elected, 80 per cent of all trees shall be removed and or pruned to manageable levels. How would you like to see significant and regulated trees in your area protected from removal?
Again, too many trees and too much fuel for fires in summer. What involvement should Councils have in decisions about protecting or removing significant and regulated trees?
All large trees must be properly pruned and or removed for safety. What actions would you advocate to slow or mitigate the impacts of climate change in your local government area?
I am unsure. I have not been briefed by the CEO of Holdfast Bay.What issues are there with traffic and parking in your area?
