Do you agree that the identification and protection of local heritage places is best done by local councils rather than DPTI (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure)?
I do.
In your opinion, has the current system of local heritage protection served your community well?

Should councils reject proposals to list local places of historic merit simply because an owner objects?
Sometimes, I can't attack property rights of private individuals... Company owned is another matter.
Should neighbours of local heritage listed buildings have a right of appeal on development applications that propose demolition?
I would support a limited right, as the neighbours have an interest in maintaining their unique property characteristics, and that extends to the neighbours. For similar reasons I also support the right to file objections to wind farm proposals if deleterious to line of sight etc.
Should buildings listed as Contributory Items in your council area receive better protection?
I honestly think this requires an in depth look. I am supportive of local council facilitating work for the dole restoration/ maintainence/sustainable development activities in the Playford area, after all, once we legislate on certain property, we have an obligation to our ratepayers to support them. I'm also keen on incentivising local employment opportunities.
Do you agree that places proposed for listing by your council as Local Heritage or Contributory Items should be subject to review by DPTI? Or would reviews be more appropriately conducted by an independent source of expert advice?
No, the DPTI has been too slow and bureaucratic for my liking. I would prefer these reviews completed by local residents that have lived in the Playford area for over a decade, maybe 2.
Would you like to see your council work more closely with the National Trust of SA in protecting heritage, for example, by signing up as one of the Trust's Civic Partners?
I'd have to reserve judgement on that. If elected, I'd work hard to nut out the details and attempt to come up with a win-win. I wouldn't like to see Playford simply give up agency for little to no benefit. Ultimately I'm about the best interest of Playford ward 5 :)
What are your personal suggestions for improving the way your council handles policy and planning?
I am looking at instituting a Playford ratepayers association, which would help everyone get on the same page in terms of expectations.
Should councils actively encourage individuals to nominate places for consideration as local heritage?
Ultimately, a balance between heritage and the flexibility required to service modern property needs is required. If councils need to encourage a particular place to be nominate, then yes, they should.
