Heritage survey responses.
Do you think that Councils and community members need to have a greater voice in planning and development decisions affecting their local area?
I absolutely do, we can truely reflect the needs of our community as we are part of the community we are representing. We know how the effects of planning and development has on our communities, so be great if local communities could be part of the consultation and planning processes. What role should Councils play in protecting local heritage places from demolition or inappropriate development?
We should have more than an advocacy role, Councils should have a seat at the table for decision making so we can represent our communities. How would you seek to improve protections for heritage places in your area?
To consult with National Trust of Australia and other like minded orgs as a starting place and also to ask locals. We rarely see new places added to local heritage listings. Why do you think this is?
People are not aware of what needs to be protected because big business is usually being represented at all government levels. The benefit I see, is that we have knowledge of the history in our area but also the strengthens our pride of our community. It also preserves our environment, and we all know the fight we are having to preserve our green spaces and waterways. How has the Planning and Design Code impacted on the heritage, amenity, and environment of your area? What changes would you seek to the Code?
Planning and design codes have definitely affected our area, such as infill development, ill placed high rises and roads they are not very thought out. Again I would seek changes by consulting with environmental groups, orgs such as National trust and the community. What are the impacts of infill development in your area? What changes would you seek in the rules around infill development?
We definitely have been impacted by infill development, for example 1 house block has been turned into 6 smaller houses, green space becoming smaller and smaller by the impact of South Road and the incoming crows precinct. Changes I would like to look into, is fighting for our green spaces and putting in place protections that dont allow infilling.Construction of new housing typically uses 30% labour and 70% materials. Renovation of existing housing stock typically uses 70% labour and 30% materials. What policy changes would you like to see made to encourage people to renovate, rather than demolish and build anew?
I would very much want to see people renovate their homes rather than build new. What policy changes, Im not sure as Im not across that as yet, but will definitely look in itHow should the community be informed and involved in decisions about new developments?
Communications should be two fold. In written form, in the top 5 languages in the area as well as an in person chat at the local community centre.Do you think there is adequate tree canopy across your local government area?
NO.How would you like to see significant and regulated trees in your area protected from removal?
I only want to ensure we have more trees not less, I would also engage with Kaurna elders to ensure we dont lose our significant treesWhat involvement should Councils have in decisions about protecting or removing significant and regulated trees?
Council's should only have decisions that are brought on by their communties...in other words cutting down of trees can only happen in consultation with electorate. What actions would you advocate to slow or mitigate the impacts of climate change in your local government area?
I will advocate for WT to declare Climate Emergency, Fight for our green space, have a group of nominated citizens to look after our kerbsides and parks (.suggested by citizens!) To look at a diverse range of options to create more greening & tree tops so we can create cooling in our areaWhat issues are there with traffic and parking in your area?
South Road mainly...plus the round about at Brickworks. And there will be further issues with the Crows coming inHow could transport options be improved in your area?
We have a free tram on Port Road. Would love to see a free rail/tram to the airportWhat would your top three priorities be for improving planning policy and outcomes in your local government area?
Consultation
Ensuring our policies are inline with proper planning & climate action
That our policies are accessible for all to understand
