Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Council needs to protect and conserve the very best of our heritage for the future and for future generations. However, protection and conservation rules, laws and regulations need to be fair, reasonable and judiciously applied. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
These are BIG questions… I think that the Hills Face Zone (for example) has a very admirable mission and intent. I think that (for Burnside in particular) it is a valuable contributor to maintaining Burnsides terrific environment and image. I believe it is vitally important that we preserve the very best of our environment and heritage for the future and for our progeny. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
There isn't one in particular. There are several. I have been made aware that Hazelwood Park is Burnside's only Heritage listed park. I think that that listing is appropriate, but there are probably a few more meritorious candidates for listing. There are a number of very worthy recipient buildings in Burnside which are also listed and worthy of listing. However, I understand that listing comes with significant encumbrances and potentially great cost. So protection and conservation rules, laws and regulations need to be fair, reasonable and judiciously applied to only the most worthy buildings and public spaces. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
