Fiona Barr
2014 candidate for District Council of the Copper Coast.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Council's need to take heritage very seriously and it is the role of Council's through their Development Plans to ensure they have listed places of cultural significance to the local community. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
The State Advisory Service and referral unit needs to be re-established. The Heritage Advisors that were previously allocated to Councils and regularly came to the Councils for referral work was an excellent program for the community till it was abolished. Heritage Grants to residents certainly help communities to work and enhance and maintain the heritage built environment. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Local Heritage. The Copper Coast Council does not have a local heritage listing, as the things at the local level are what is so special about your area and what makes it different compared to other areas.-uniqueWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
To do the hard yards and get local heritage listing registered.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
yesDo you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Needs to be more proactive at the grass roots level.
