What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Education, advice and preservation. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I am in favour of the council initiated Development Plan Amendment to increase the historic conservation zone. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Notification of neighbours and the community at large when character residential buildings are demolished. It is a tragedy that these buildings are lost forever. More could be done to preserve buildings, even if it is just the facades, to maintain context with existing streetscapes. Note: Development Plan Objectives "Objective 22: The preservation of buildings or sites of architectural, historical, or scientific, interest. There are many buildings and sites of architectural, historical, and scientific, interest in metropolitan Adelaide that warrant preservation. An awareness of their existence is the first stage in preservation, and lists are available prepared by statutory bodies and interested organisations." Objective 27: The amenity of localities not impaired by the appearance of land, buildings and objects. A city should be an attractive and pleasant place in which to live, as well as being healthy and convenient. If the city dweller is to enjoy looking at his surroundings, attention must be given to the aesthetic qualities of both natural and man-made features. The design of individual buildings should be of high standard and related to adjacent buildings." reference http://www.prospect.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/dev_plan.pdfWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
I would support a greater allocation of resources to increase and promote the Prospect Local History Collection I would support a register of experienced heritage architects, builders and trades that have produced quality work in our area.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
I would echo the LGA's and the Prospect mayor's sentiments that the recent stripping back of council powers for projects over $3m is "yet another blow to local communities".Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
As a member of the Prospect Local History Group (for whom I created the website), I would also encourage the community to get involved and contribute to the history collection via social media. http://www.prospect.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1893 https://sites.google.com/site/prospectlocalhistorygroup/
