Raymond Bruce Brown
2014 candidate for Alexandrina Council.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
My personal view regarding protection and conservation of heritage is important as we need to keep these places alive for the benefit of our children and future generations, It would be a shame for our children in the future to ask questions and ask to see these types of buildings, monuments or wildlife only to be informed that they no longer exist. It worries me that some heritage listed plants are now being cut down in the name of progress, some of these plants took hundreds of years to grow and are wiped out in a matter of seconds. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Create and develop educational programs and hold workshops for anyone that wishes to learn. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
I have to admit that at this stage I do not know, but I will have to definitely investigate. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Encourage public input into the cause. Which I will be implementing if elected.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
I believe that there could also be an external expert group to whom the council may turn to for advice on sensitive issues.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
The council would be at an advantage if they were to consult with the people that they are supposed to represent, that is the residents.
