The building is now used to bring music and other arts activities to the people of the Clare and Gilbert Valleys. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
The restoration of State Government Funding to the National Trust to ensure they have adequate funding to ensure significant buildings and other infrastructure are protected and conserved for current and future generationsWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Lack of funding from State Government Grants programs no longer available for local branches of the National Trust, other community organisations and Council Educating the community regarding the importance of conserving our heritageWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Complete the register of significant buildings and infrastructure Continue working with communities to facilitate the preservation of heritage buildingsDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes I do - local Councils have an in-depth knowledge of their council area. The Clare and Gilbert Valleys is a unique area and has an outstanding reputation as a place of spectacular beauty and it will require careful management to ensure there is a balance between planning, development and retaining the Clare and Gilbert Valleys unique characteristics.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
I know that I have mentioned lack of funding a few times - but the continual cost shifting from both Federal and State Governments to Council has impacted on the Council's budget. Community organisations and Council need to get together to lobby for government support to ensure that the heritage assets in our Council area can be protected.
