Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I believe it's critical, for far too long council has viewed preserving heritage as a liability instead of an asset to the community. While modern development is important it's just as important to remember and celebrate our past. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Direct involvement with local historical groups and the National Trust to identify items requiring preservation. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
The old Railway precinct and riverfront. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Ensure due process with community involvement is taken before any development and or demolition of heritage sites, to ensure developers aren't the only voice considered.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
No, from experience there is a lack of experience at Council level for such projects. Council employs a lot of graduate planners who are simply too inexperienced to handle such developments.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
