  1. What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
    Council has a key role in protecting and promoting our heritage, through planning decisions, supporting history and community groups and restoration projects, and through protecting and maintaining its own heritage buildings.

  2. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
    It is important for development applications to be considered with an eye to keeping our heritage values intact. Council should ensure development enhances, not destroys or detract from heritage values. The Council can provide support and incentives for community projects retaining local heritage. It can lobby for State and Federal funds to maintain heritage character. Council needs to maintain its own heritage buildings for the benefit of all, and promote heritage values through education, informative signs and community events.

  3. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
    The Woolen Mills at Lobethal are an important heritage protection issue.

  4. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
    1. support to heritage and history groups to maintain and promote local heritage 2. provide information on the importance and legal requirements relating to the protection of heritage. 3. support history days and other events 4. give weight to the preservation of heritage places and buildings when considering development applications 5. act to facilitate community involvement and ownership of their local heritage

  6. Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
    The Onkarparinga Valley Ward has numerous community buildings, war memorials, private buildings and the like needing cataloging and assessing for value and priority for conservation effort.
