Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
As a local government a lot of councils have forgot who we are and how we have gotten there in a lot of communities. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I aware that the local heritage group in whyalla has been treated very badly by the local council but I am not fully aware of what has been happening in our local area to make a comment but I would say given that my grandfather was a light horseman and being a professional fisherman myself and knowing I will see the end of inshore fishery in my lifetime at 53 years of age I do believe strongly with preserving our local history. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
The local history of steel making and iron ore mining as well as the ship building which has helped make whyalla what it is today. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
I strongly believe that our history and heritage that we have here in whyalla has to be preserved but I am not sure what roll council play in that. I am open to any approaches.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
The problem I have is with the amount of poor decisions in country SA that come from Adelaide or Canberra makes me hesitant to give sny authority in that direction.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Not currently but I have been known to have long discussions with John Greenshields who previously advised the Adelaide City Council on their heritage listings.
