Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
In order to keep the iconic views, and character of Victor harbor, I think it is imperative that we pro-actively protect and market our heritage. We have a rich Indigenous and European heritage, and our views are part of that heritage. As a Whaling port, and meeting place of both English and French explorers, there is much to remember and celebrate. Victor harbor is also situated on the lands of our Aboriginal brothers and sisters, and we should never forget their ongoing connection with the land, sea and waterways in this area. Their history should also be celebrated. We have beautiful buildings that reflect this history and these should be preserved and maintained. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
History trail around Victor harbor. An Indigenous trail around Victor harbor explaining important Indigenous sites. (this needs to be developed and carried out in collaboration with the local indigenous people) Preserving iconic buildings New buildings should reflect this character of Victor Harbor and not detract from the history Areas of historical significant should be maintain Public iconic views should be protected for all to see. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Iconic views, and threat from development Granite island as a historical site inappropriate development in historical precinctsWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
If elected, i need to find out i detail what policies and programs they have. I'm not going to advocate for programs that don't exist. if programs don't exist, or there is absence of policies then I will consult with Historical society, and others to assist in developing them.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
