What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Berri Barmera council is very proactive in protecting the regions heritage. The Developement of a heritage listing is proof of such a commitment to the regions heritage. During my first term as an elected member, 2010/14, Berri Barmera council has undertaken a comprehensive audit of all the regions structures. It has compiled a detailed listing of all structures with historic heritage values. This list of structures will be refined by the incoming elected members into the heritage structure listing. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Development of a heritage listing with input from the community is the first step to protect the regions heritage. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Completion of the councils heritage structure listing, identifying which structures need to be protected by local, state or national heritage laws, protection orders. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Completion of the Berri Barmera heritage listing, focusing of the regions irrigated horticulture and military history.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes, with oversight from the state Government planning department. I believe the threshold should be lifted to $10million. Many local councils use independent planning bodies to assess non-complying development applications.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
