Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I think council play a big role in protecting and conserving heritage, as often there are heritage items in the council ward areas where the locals have knowledge and history on, it could be a family member lived there or grew up there or worked there. I believe councils role should be in the form of some financial support toward projects on heritage items. It should also remain informed of plans, updates and projects on heritage conservation so that it can be an active part of the communication between local residents and other parties. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I think that owners of local heritage should be encouraged or supported in their endeavours to retain and restore or protect the heritage items. Whether that is through council grants, or rebates off their council rates. Which can be measured by owners making submissions or plans on managing their heritage item and at half yearly reviews if they have been carried out or maintained, the grant or rebate can be made. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Torrens Island is the most important heritage protection issue. I also believe there are a few private properties along the coastal strip in danger of being demolished if planning permission changes. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
The policies and programs I would advocate to protect would be planning permission on land development. I would also support sensitive upgrades and usage applications for key heritage buildings in the area, so that they remain in good condition to ensure their longevity and also to give local residents a chance to share and enjoy the buildings.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
I do support local councils retaining development approval for significant projects. As representatives of the local community we understand the area and what the needs and wishes of local residents.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
It is an area of significant interest for me and I would like to see Port Adelaide Enfield council manage projects of heritage like other successful councils, like Fremantle.
