Councils role is to identify places and provide ways to ensure that they are maintained into the future. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I support the application of local heritage grants along with listing of specefic placesWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
When I was councillor from 2006 to 2010 the major issue in morphettvale was trying to protect the listed buildings in William street. However from what I remember it was an uphill battle as the owner would rather have knocked down the relevant buildings to redevelopWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
The use of the State Heritage Register and local heritage lists and the funding of small grantsDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes i do as currently we have a state government trying to take away the relevant planning approval process with what appears to be a "develop at all costs"Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Make more people aware of the history of an area by a targeted education program. For example in the case of Morphettvale, behind the Emu hotel and according to Tindale. It is supposed to be the last known camp site of the kaurna people before dispersion. Then you have a layer of built heritage in the area and then improvements within the landscape. Consequently there is the opportunity to create a place based education campaign to educate the population about the history, geography/water and culture of the area.
