Bob Marshall
2014 candidate for City of Victor Harbor.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Leading by example, listening to residents and community, not developers. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Elect a Planning Minister who cares about heritage and gives the community the legislative powers to save what is left. Pass laws to stop major political parties from soliciting "donations" (in Asia they call this another name) from developers. National Trust needs to be far more forceful in its dealings with Council, not just sitting quietly and accepting whatever the council planners tell them. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Electing a council that cares. Get rid of the "development at all cost" small town thinkers in Victor Harbor. Tourism and economy are not the only things that matter in this town. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Greater community involvement in heritage protection and a Heritage Advisory Committee that doesn't just do what the Council planners tell them. National Trust needs to be far more forceful in its dealings with Council, not just sitting quietly and accepting whatever the council planners tell them.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Only if the council members and council planners care about heritage.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
A council must have the powers from State Government to act to protect local heritage. Council planners must be committed to protecting heritage not just making noises about it! National Trust needs to be far more forceful in its dealings with Council, not just sitting quietly and accepting whatever the council planners tell them. Doing surveys will not solve the problem. Everybody knows what has to be done, it's a matter of you people doing more at state and federal level to influence politicians who currently think councils should be seen and not heard and that a fist full of dollars in developer "donations" is all that matters.
