Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I belive that Council reponsiblites / Role should include the following - developing and maintaining the local Hisctoric Enviroment Record - Ensure that all the local planning policy and development takes the historic environment into account - Protecting heritage through appropriate management and promoting awareness and public enjoyment of the historic environment. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Measures - The historic environment is a shared rescource - Everyone should be able to participate in sustanining the historic environment - Significant places should be managed to sustain their values - Documenmting and learning from decisions is essential Incentives - Tax Incentives - Tax deductions for donations to heritage - Grants and Loans - Labour and VolunteersWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
To make the best use of our resources so that Adelaide's vulnerable historic environment is safeguarded in the most cost-effective way at a time of massive social, environmetal, economic and technological change. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
There needs to be more clarity on the roles and responsibilities of the council, to include methods to allow people and organisations to find out more about how they can get invloved. I would like to see a Action Plan in place able to compare and share information on efforts to protect a particular type of heritage or to tackle a particular threat. It is about developing a common language rather than forcing a change of approach or function.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes, I think we need to be in control. Adelaide's Development approval powers should be the Council's lead advisory body's role, for the historic environment protection, and the Council should need to maintain a statutory role in the plannining system for future development.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Encouraging investment in the heritage - by improving policy changes that could encourage private developers to invest in historic buildings, and also to encourage the investors to undertake ungrades by supporting their ideas.
