Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I believe Council should play an integral role in protecting and conserving heritage - indeed this is a key responsibility of a City Council. Our heritage is fundamental to Adelaide's character and history and should be preserved. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I support a continuation of Adelaide City Council's Heritage Incentive Scheme and would also support moves to list Adelaide as an International Historic City. I will also campaign strongly against any plans to take people out of the planning process that may open the way for destruction of our local heritage. In general, I believe it's important that new developments reflect the existing 'look and feel' of Adelaide so that we can preserve our city's unique character. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
As noted above, development and the impact of this is a key issue for heritage in Adelaide City Council. I will advocate for development to reflect the 'look and feel' of our city so that heritage values are protected. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Please refer to the policies outlined in relation to question 6.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes, I believe Council should continue to play a role in development approval and am concerned that efforts to remove Council from the process could result in a destruction of our heritage.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
