  1. What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
    Ensure sympathetic development and empathetic refurbishment of heritage buildings and within heritage zones to ensure retention of character within viable use framework

  2. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
    Practical but protective regulation, encouragement incentives (possibly rate rebate of development fee waiving) and State/Federal loan support for appropriate development and refurbishment (very small councils like ours don't have the resources or capacity to do this...)

  3. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
    Owner resistance to regulation, they want it left to them (until a neighbour does something they don't like)

  4. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
    Heritage Protection Zone, tighter regulation on development around and within these areas to preserve fabric and character for the "greater benefit" and in recognition that this is what attracts residents, investors and visitors

  5. Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
    YES

  6. Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
    I'm disappointed that we "lost" the Heritage DPA process 4 years ago when a more aggressive and vocal "anti-" campaign was promulgated -with a lot of emotive disinformation- by a paranoid minority and they carried the (generally mistrusting of Local Government anyway) public with them. Sentiment was "ant"i by the time we reframed the message and tried to re-address the concerns.
