Yes,I strongly believe that the greatest threat to our heritage in both the sense of preserving individual buildings and in the broader sense of the character of our town is the state government with its mania for headline grabbing ,and often unsustainable, large projects. The minister should not have the power to ride rough shod over the local communityDo you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
In tourist towns like Victor Harbor our heritage buildings and landscape are a large part of the 'feel' of the town which is part of why tourists visit. Tourism and heritage should not be seen as in competition but as allies with our heritage attracting tourists and hopefully tourism helping to fund the preservation of our heritage. In saying this I do not support the idea that the town should be trapped in some sort of time warp, we need facilities. The point is to make sure that any development is compatible with its surroundings.
