2014 candidate for City of Tea Tree Gully.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Educating residents about it's history including the traditional owners of the land - kaurna people, settlement by the Europeans and how we arrived to our modern existence. Conserving our heritage is very important
What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Educating residents and maintaining significant sites. Providing local funding for and exploring state and commonwealth measures to also help protect and conserve our heritage
What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
It's history from traditional owners, European settlement, from farming district to modern day township. We have some significant sites in tea tree gully that need to maintained. I believe it is important that our elected leaders consider our past while trying to improve our future. The importance of knowing how we got here today is an important part of our make up.
What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
I believe council has a role to play in developing its area, large projects over 3m? I would suspect developments of this size would need capital from various sources having involvement from other tiers of government might help with funding of the proposals. That being said we have had some recent developments in my local area that have been less than 3 million dollars and the council have ignored local residents, ignored the recent development of dry zones and built 2 ugly looking alcohol bottle shops that are not consistence with local heritage. So I would not support councils having the final approval power fro projects over $3 m.
Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
