Jill Whittaker
2014 candidate for Campbelltown City Council.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Identifying and liaising with affected properties. Identifying trees. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I would like to see areas of heritage identified early but this flies in the face of some ideas in the Thirty Year Plan eg pre 1949 houses. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Ancient trees which have no status at all just for being old unless they are also very large. Even in that instance they are often expendable. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
My ward is a new area as it was until recently market gardens. The heritage features are mostly natural and it is hard to get protection for these features as heritage is always connected to human connections.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes. It is wrong to by-pass local communities in this way. It is even worse that it was done while a Review Report on Planning is imminent.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
